Maria has extensive experience advising employers on all aspects of employment law. Her experience includes restructuring and change management advice and implementation. Maria has experience advising clients throughout commercial sale and purchases and mergers, and providing strategic and commercially focused advice in relation to the resolution of personal grievances and disputes.
Maria represents employers in defending personal grievances and breach of contract claims in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court and attends mediations and settlement conferences on behalf of clients.

Profile
Simon joined Luke Cunningham & Clere in 2005 and undertakes criminal trials and departmental prosecutions.
Simon's involvement in criminal law began as a law clerk and subsequently a barrister in the Chambers of Judith Ablett Kerr QC where he practiced primarily as a criminal defence lawyer. There, he gained experience as counsel in District Court criminal trials and as junior counsel in appeals to the Court of Appeal. He also appeared as junior counsel in various tribunals including the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Medical Council and the Employment Tribunal.
From 2000 to 2004, Simon was a researcher with the Irish Law Reform Commission based in Dublin. Simon then joined the Crown Law Office in the role of a legal advisor in the Governmental Business Team. During that period he worked on a series of civil claims regarding alleged criminal offending and ethical impropriety.

Profile
Mark currently undertakes criminal litigation work as a crown prosecutor and also acts for private civil litigation clients. He acts for a number of Government departments in criminal cases in both District Court and High Court, prosecuting in defended trials and appearing on appeals.
Prior to joining Luke, Cunningham & Clere in 2005, Mark advised and acted for insurers both in New Zealand and off-shore about general and professional liability insurance claims. Mark has been involved in insurance policy drafting for existing and new players in the insurance market. He has also developed debt recovery practices and training for several insurers.

Profile
Ian has substantial experience as a crown prosecutor and also represents government departments in the District and High Courts.
Ian began his career as a researcher with the Law Commission. While at the Law Commission he undertook extensive research about the new Evidence Act and proposed changes to the criminal justice system.
Ian joined Luke Cunningham & Clere’s team in 1997. From mid 2004 Ian undertook work as a crown prosecutor in the South Island until his return in 2007 as one of our dedicated associates.

Profile
Michael conducts criminal prosecutions at all levels on behalf of both the Crown and various other prosecuting authorities such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the New Zealand Customs Service and the Inland Revenue Department.
Michael provides advice to government departments and agencies. He also regularly appears before the Parole Board on behalf of the Department of Corrections.
Prior to commencing employment with Luke Cunningham & Clere, Michael was at the criminal defence bar where he represented clients in both the summary and indictable jurisdictions.
He has also appeared as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, and Privy Council.

Profile
Jackson conducts criminal litigation as a Crown prosecutor, appearing in defended trials and on appeals. He provides advice and advocacy to government departments and local authorities, and acts for the Commissioner of Police in relation to proceeds of crime litigation. He is a regular speaker at conferences and training events, particularly in relation to departmental and local government prosecutions.
Following his admission in 1998 Jackson spent several years practising primarily as a criminal defence lawyer, but also undertaking civil litigation.
Prior to joining Luke, Cunningham & Clere in 2008, Jackson spent 5 years in the United Kingdom, where he prosecuted extensively, appearing for a number of central and local government bodies.
