Kat is a junior Crown Prosecutor and represents the Crown in prosecuting serious crime, as well as acting for a range of government departments and professional disciplinary bodies. She regularly appears in the District and High Courts.

Kat began her career as a Judge’s Clerk for the Principal Youth Court Judge, after which she worked as a Legal Advisor at the Criminal Cases Review Commission. Before joining the LCC, Kat graduated with an LLM from Harvard University in 2024 as a Fulbright Scholar, having also received William Georgetti and Spencer Mason scholarships and a Dean’s Scholar academic prize from Harvard Law School. Kat also completed a fellowship at the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organisation at Yale Law School.

Kat has published in the New Zealand Law Journal, the Māori Law Review, the New Zealand Criminal Law Review, the Public Interest Law Journal of New Zealand, and the Auckland University Law Review.
