Katie has experience in civil and commercial litigation and has appeared in the High Court and Supreme Court. Prior to joining Luke Cunningham Clere in 2026, Katie worked in the Wellington office of the Auckland Crown Solicitor with a focus on public law litigation. She also worked in the Auckland office of the Auckland Crown Solicitor advising and acting for the Commissioner of Police in civil restraint and forfeiture proceedings.
Katie graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with an LLM in 2020 and started her career doing commercial litigation and corporate transactional work.
Recent and notable work:
Advising and appearing as counsel for the Crown in numerous claims alleging historic abuse, neglect, and torture of young persons in State care.
Advising and appearing as counsel in a High Court civil proceeding alleging breaches of process contracts, misrepresentation under s 35 of the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017, and misleading and deceptive conduct under s 9 of the Fair Trading Act 1986.
Advising and appearing in medico-legal reviews of ACC decisions.
Assisting with the successful application for civil restraining orders in a case alleging over 100kgs of methamphetamine importation by a criminal syndicate.
Assisting with an application for civil forfeiture orders in a case alleging manufacturing and possession of a class A drug and participating in an organised criminal group.
Appearing as counsel in the Supreme Court opposing extradition to the United States of America for alleged criminal copyright infringement and other offences in Ortmann & Ors v United States of America [2020] NZSC 120.
